Applications invited for Glasgow-based research manager role to link up with primary care ambitions

Applications are being invited for the role of Research Nurse Manager, offering an opportunity to ‘influence service development, lead high-performing teams and improve outcomes for patients’

The vacancy for the Glasgow Clinical Research Facility (GCRF), based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Campus, invites applicants to lead innovative research across primary, secondary and community care settings, while helping to expand access to high-quality clinical trials.

It is an exciting time to join NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) as the Practice Embedded Research Unit (PERU) model starts to grow across Scotland.

It represents an opportunity for the successful candidate to work with the NHS Research Scotland (NRS) Primary Care Network and help develop infrastructure that supports Scotland’s ambition of improving patient access to research by transforming how commercial clinical research is delivered in primary and community care settings.

Scotland’s PERUs are funded by the Voluntary Scheme for Branded Medicines Pricing, Access and Growth (VPAG) Investment Programme, enabling a move from ad-hoc primary care research activity to a structured, sustainable model, with a dedicated research delivery team working across multiple locations.

The PERUs work closely alongside Scotland’s four Commercial Research Delivery Centres (CRDCs), which form a vital part of a UK-wide network launched to boost clinical trial capacity, speed up trial set-ups, and give patients faster access to cutting-edge treatments.

Applications for the role are invited from both internal and external candidates up to Sunday 12 July with full details available on the NHS Scotland Careers website.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the delivery of high-quality clinical research across primary care, community and acute settings, ensuring safety and excellence of care
  • Developing and implementing strategies to expand research capacity and establish research-active GP practices across NHSGGC
  • Acting as lead nurse for a portfolio of studies, ensuring compliance with protocols, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), governance standards, and regulatory requirements

VPAG Network Manager, Sarah Kennedy said: “We would urge those with relevant experience to step forward and apply for this diverse, exciting role.

“Not only will you be making a vital difference in spearheading ambitions at GCRF, you will also have the opportunity to forge collaborative new connections, such as playing a key role in advancing the PERU model across NHS.

“Penicuik Medical Practice was the first PERU to open earlier this year, turning aims for research to be delivered closer to home into reality, with many more GP practices now expressing interest in this opportunity.”

Please contact Susanne Catchcart, CRDC Operational Lead if you would like to informally discuss the role prior to application.

A live NMC UK pin is required in order to be considered for the post.
