Online workshop set to offer Horizon Europe funding guidance to Scotland’s researchers and innovators

An online event will provide Scotland’s healthcare researchers and innovators with details of health-related funding opportunities offered by the £80 billion Horizon Europe programme

The free workshop on Wednesday 26 November – entitled ‘Unlock the Future of Health Innovation with Horizon Europe’ — is being hosted by Scottish Enterprise with support from the Scottish Government’s Chief Scientist Office (CSO), NHS Research Scotland (NRS), and Innovate UK (IUK).

NRS considers it a vital opportunity for Scotland’s healthcare community to start thinking about applying and reaching out to potential fellow consortia members in order to mount strong bids for relevant future calls.

The two-hour session will commence at 10.30am via Microsoft Teams and will offer a deep dive into the European Commission’s ‘flagship funding programme’ for research and innovation.

A range of attendees are invited to join, including researchers, innovators and administrators from industry, universities, public sector and community organisations.

This event will allow interested parties to gain a better understanding of the framework programme and funding opportunities for the healthcare sector and share insights into the best approach to applying.

There are also expected to be details shared on upcoming Horizon Europe calls, their strategic priorities, and expert insights into the types of funding offered that could support relevant projects in Scotland.

Dr Frank Moeschler MBE, Head of Research and Innovation for the Scottish Government in Brussels, will open the workshop.

The event’s keynote speaker Jo Frost, IUK Horizon Europe’s National Contact Point for Health, is then offering an in-depth look at Horizon Europe’s health funding opportunities and what they could mean for Scotland.

Jo will also be highlighting the kinds of IUK support available to applicants, alongside Dr Claire Melville, Innovation and Growth Specialist at Scottish Enterprise.

Shona Darcy, Entrepreneurship Lead at EIT Health Ireland–UK will be offering an overview of European Institute of Innovation and Technology – Health and related funding opportunities.

Project Manager at Scottish Enterprise, Sarah Forbes, will also be placing a focus on the UNITE digital health project and innovation funding opportunities available to Scottish businesses and universities.

A spokesperson for Scottish Enterprise said: “Horizon Europe, the EU’s foremost funding programme for research and innovation, pledged to offer over £80 billion for the period 2021-2027, and it has continued to fulfil its promise. Health and related areas are among the major pillars being targeted by this funding investment.

“Following several productive meetings with interested parties from across Scotland in this sector, Scottish Enterprise has arranged an informative workshop to raise awareness about the opportunities Horizon Europe lends to support international research and innovation collaborations in the health sector. We hope they can join us to learn more.”
