Scottish Cross-Sector Hub to bring together the country’s ‘data and digital health’ experts at third event

The Academy of Medical Sciences Scotland Cross-Sector Hub is inviting attendees to register for its third event aimed at enhancing collaboration this autumn
The free-to-attend gathering, taking place at the COSLA Conference Centre in Edinburgh on Tuesday, 23 September, and hosted by NHS Research Scotland (NRS), will focus on research and innovation in ‘Data and Digital Health,’ an area in which Scotland excels internationally.
It follows two successful Hub events held in March and June this year, which focussed on ‘Engaging with Life Sciences Industry and Entrepreneurship in Scotland’ and ‘Precision Medicine and Precision Population Health’.
Speakers at the September event will include:
- Scotland’s Chief Scientist (Health), Regius Professor Dame Anna Dominiczak
- Director of the Usher Institute, University of Edinburgh, Professor Cathie Sudlow
- Reader & Honorary Consultant at the University of Dundee & NHS Tayside, Dr Samira Bell
- CEO of Research Data Scotland, Professor Roger Halliday
- Head of Data and Modelling Services, Public Health Scotland, Carole Morris
- Chair of the Genomics England Participant Panel, Jillian Hastings Ward
- Co-Chair of Life Sciences Scotland, Mark Cook
- President of Canon Medical Research Europe, Ken Sutherland
The aim of the Scotland Cross-Sector Hub is to foster and enhance connections and collaborations across disciplines and sectors, facilitating advances in health and life sciences research and innovation.
The Hub Project Team recognises that innovation in data and digital health across Scotland benefits greatly from the country’s triple helix approach of NHS, academia, and industry working together, combining their collective insight, expertise, and infrastructure.
The Edinburgh event, taking place from 10am-2.30pm, welcomes researchers and innovators from the triple helix, or any related disciplines, who have an interest in data and digital health. Attendees are encouraged to help further enhance Scotland’s continuing growth in this key area.
Individuals at any stage of their career are welcome to attend, but those in the early-mid stages of their careers may find this event particularly useful.
Attendees will benefit from:
- Strategic networking opportunities to connect with leaders in life sciences research and innovation
- Scope to identify and engage with potential collaborators from diverse professional backgrounds
- In-depth insights into data and digital health in Scotland
- A collaborative environment designed to spark innovative solutions and cross-sector partnerships
With limited places available, registering for the event as soon as possible is encouraged. Please note that a waitlist is in operation.
To be considered for an oral or poster presentation on a competitive basis, please submit a 250-word abstract on your work by 20 August 2025.
Professor Dame Anna Dominiczak, Chief Scientist for Health and Chair of the Scotland Hub Project Team said: “This is our third Hub event in 2025, exemplifying our growing partnership with the Academy of Medical Sciences.
“It aims to foster new multidisciplinary relationships between life scientists, health professionals, engineers, regulators, policy makers, investors, patients, and the public, all of whom are invited to attend.
“Data and digital health is a key area in which Scotland is internationally renowned – but additional connections can always be developed and further progress made.
“We believe strongly that bringing different skills, experiences, and schools of thought together can drive inter-sector collaborations that could lead to exciting new ideas and potential solutions to health challenges. Shaping a better future for patients in Scotland and beyond is paramount.”
