Virtual ‘mini conference’ set to showcase research and primary care infrastructure developments

A free lunchtime ‘mini conference’ will be held virtually next month, aimed at engaging primary care clinicians, practice staff, GP trainees, and medical students in research
The NHS Research Scotland (NRS) Primary Care Network event — hosted live on Microsoft Teams — will take place on Thursday 11 September from 1-2pm.
Introduced by Network Manager Dr Ellen Drost, the webinar will feature four talks, covering topics including ‘How we can deliver clinical trials in primary care in Scotland’, and will discuss fresh developments in establishing a national research infrastructure.
Also featured are the SPARC study assessing whether cancer should be considered a chronic disease with annual reviews for patients, and the Remote STrOke Rehabiliation (ReSTORe) study which is aiming to discover if an online rehabilitation programme can help improve wellbeing following a stroke.
Ultimately, the webinar will demonstrate and showcase the value of research to primary care professionals and their patients while aiming to stimulate participation at all levels.
Ellen said: “We are delighted that our mini conference is returning this September.
“The webinar will share learnings with the ambition of inspiring further research in this vital area through a series of short, impactful presentations.
“With the current emphasis on increasing research capacity and capability in the primary care sector, and bringing research closer to the patient, we believe that attendees will value the event’s accessible insights on how we can deliver more primary care clinical trials in Scotland.”
She added: “We hope you can join us next month to hear more.”
The Network was established in 2002 as a framework to coordinate national research activity in primary care. Funded by the Chief Scientist Office (CSO), its aim is to increase the amount of research relevant to patient care undertaken in a primary care setting.
